While cleaning out my closet and dresser the other day I was posed with a question that almost made my heart stop. “How many of these things do I truly need?” Honestly, probably not a whole lot, but I love my things so I said “all of them.” I was lying, but there are some things that a woman most definitely needs in her closet and this ladies, is my list.

You can wear them with jeans, with that perfect little dress, with that skirt you bought for the job interview…basically, EVERYTHING. Right now, loose fitting things are in, shirts, pants, everything. But this piece will never go out of style. It’s the classic boyfriend jacket, related closely to the boyfriend shirt. Pair it with some skinny jeans, a white v neck and those oh so perfect black pumps that we were talking about and you’ve got yourself a dazzling little outfit.

Ladies, we all need one perfectly large, slightly oversized bag. Let me tell you, this is the one that is going to turn heads. It is GORGEOUS! It’s large and it will rule that space you call a closet! This is one handbag style you definitely need in your closet.

When Sheila first asked me if I would help her write these posts, I was a little apprehensive, what with this being a women’s site and well umm.. me being a guy! But I guess they really had a point with it. Why not have a guy’s opinion along with the women’s to just add some fresh perspective!! I do hope that you enjoy not only my posts, but the collaboration between me and Sheila! And hey, what better way to start than with the Oscars right!?

It isn’t often that a big (in this case HUMONGOUS) production movie that is also widely acclaimed, gets outdone by a movie that barely even made it to commercial cinema. But that is the very story of The Hurt Locker which managed to bag the coveted Best Motion Picture award at the Oscars last night.

The Hurt Locker is a war movie and really not much different than many others. The one place that it does stand out in the crop is that it does take a look at an almost sinister addiction to war. The lead character Sgt. William James takes over as the team leader of the EOD (the bomb squad) that is based in Iraq. The whole movie plots the story of him and his two team members as they go around the city disarming bombs and trying to fight the good fight. And though his team is eagerly awaiting (and counting down) their end of duty in Iraq, Sgt James just seems happy doing his job. At the end of the movie, we see that he has returned to Iraq to lead another team as that is the “one thing he knows he loves” (as he says to his infant child back home)!

He says: I can’t help but imagine what James Cameron must be going through – how many people have had their ex-wives take the Oscars away from them?? Ohh though i didn’t think it was that great, congrats to Kathryn on becoming the first woman director ever to win the award!

She says: Okay maybe I’m being biased because I haven’t seen The Hurt Locker but somehow I wanted Avatar or Inglourious Basterds to win! From what I’ve read, the victory of The Hurt Locker reminds me a little of the fiasco surrounding The Slumdog Millionaire last year which I didn’t think it deserved. Yaay to Kathryn Bigelow though!

The most interesting part about The Hurt Locker is not so much the movie, but the story behind its making and its release. From being a small-budget production to being a limited release to being the most successful movie at the Oscars grabbing six awards including the Best Director and the Best Motion Picture!! There aren’t many movies that I like that are music icon based dramas. Sure the character isn’t a biographical one, but that’s not really the point. I didn’t much enjoy Crazy Heart – specially considering he’s a Country musician. But I can not deny that Jeff Bridges delivered a brilliant role to land him the Best Actor in a Lead Role award.

The movie follows the life of a run-down country star Otis Blake. At 57, Blake has left his hay-days far behind him and is now left to live nothing but a shell of his own earlier glamorous days. As he is going along with his life, performing at mid-scale events and living in motels, there comes along a journalist in the form of Maggie Gyllenhaal who is looking for a story. As she spends some time with him, she realizes that with no family (thanks to a spate of bad marriages), Blake is really living an empty life. As things progress, she starts seeing the man instead of the star in him and that is the start of their relationship. From here on, the movie takes us on a trip of Jeff’s character rediscovering his life and his previous relationships with friends and proteges and the ups and downs that each of these relationships face.

He says: I’d have to say that this is the type of movie that I normally don’t watch – but I happened to watch this with a couple of friends and I think the one thing that we did agree on was that every actor in this movie seems to have portrayed his/her character well!

She says: Finally! After having received four Oscar nominations in the past, Jeff Bridges really deserved to win this one. Fifth time lucky I guess!

Overall, unless you are a fan of country music or this genre of movies, I would suggest you watch the movie just to watch these brilliant actors bring to life their characters in the movie – and of course, none better than Jeff Bridges!

Although, sports dramas are not my favorite genre, I couldn’t help but be moved by Sandra Bullock’s powerful performance in The Blind Side. And I wasn’t the least bit surprised when Sandra took home the Oscar for the Best Actress last night…

The Blind Side tells the true story of Michael Oher, a homeless African- American teenager who is taken in by Leigh Anne Tuohy (played by Bullock) and her family. As the story progresses, Oher faces new challenges and hardships that he overcomes with the help of the generous and giving Leigh Anne to become an All-American offensive left tackle. All in all it is an inspiring, feel good tale of love and human victory. Ironically, Sandra also won the Golden Rasberry for the Worst Actress for her perfromance in All About Steve. Who cares as long as you take home an Oscar with it!

She Says: Loved her in the movie! Loved her acceptance speech! Most of all loved her divine Marchesa gown!

He Says: Though she isn’t really my favorite actress, there’s just something about Sandra Bullock. I always enjoy her movies and am loving her comeback – with the Proposal and then this movie! Glad she now has an Oscar to her name.

If you haven’t seen the movie, do watch it when you get the chance. I’ve gotta admit a part of me was also rooting for Carrie Muligan. Who was your personal pick for the winner?

Think Taylor Swift and I bet you think of all things girly, pink and pretty, which is why it’s hardly surprising that this Taylor Swift prom dress is all that and so much more!

What’s so Fab about It: The girly ruffles, the tiers and the tulle! Also, I’m glad that the dress is in black and white. Any other color would just make it too busy. All in all, the dress makes me wanna twirl like a little girl, and that does not happen very often!
